Major General Bauer was a US Air Force officer, head of Stargate Command in 2000 in replacement of Major General George Hammond who had to retire by force. He has been reassigned soon after to an unknown location. He has been replaced by Hammond, put back on active duty.

Biography[edit | edit source]

According to Major Samantha Carter, General Bauer has been for so long in the Pentagon that he became certainly more a bureaucrat than a military. According to Bauer himself, he seems to be more motivated by politics. It is not sure if Bauer is directly or indirectly involved with the NID business (SG1: "Chain Reaction").

Character's evolution[edit | edit source]

"Chain Reaction" (2000)[edit | edit source]

After escaping an ambush, General George Hammond announces to SG-1's members that he's no longer assuming command of Stargate Command and retires.

The new Commander in Chief, Major General Bauer, arrives soon after before all personnel gathered inside the SGC embarkation room, holding a folder. Colonel Jack O'Neill stands everybody at attention. Bauer introduces himself quite briefly, telling he will be happy to work with the staff, then leaves the room.

Shortly after, Daniel Jackson and Major Samantha Carter comment on Bauer's speech while they're heading to Carter's lab. General Bauer is already here, much to their surprise. He puts Carter at ease, then tells her he read her researchs on the naquadah reactor. He seems to be more interrested about the naquadah's properties when the mineral is combined with nuclear energy. He adds that the Pentagon is working on a weapon using those properties and announces to Carter that she has been assigned on this project. He also tells Jackson that his place isn't in the operation field anymore and that he will work as a consultant for occasional missions. He gives a folder to Carter and orders her to go and work on it.
